4D Project Proposal
Mark Treagust
Multiple Stage Animation
Project Summary:
My proposal for the project is to create an animation that will be shown in Adobe Flash. When the viewer tries to fast forward or rewind the video, the video continues to play but the level of finish changes. If the video is being played as complete, then the viewer rewinds the video, the video steps backwards through the animation processes. The video may start off as a fully finished coloured animation, then when they rewind, the video is no longer coloured, then the video steps back to sketches and so on. If I have time I would like to make a 3D animation and possibly a live action version of the animation.
Development:
I plan on developing this project by researching the different animation processes used throughout the industry over time. I would like to research and recreate the different forms of animation and use them in the video. The subject of the animation will be determined at a later date. I will research different animations that have been created that convey the idea of time and how it can be conveyed. The final animation will be one of three possibilities. It will either be an animation that I have created from scratch, a recreation of a famous animation or a recreation of an animation that conveys time in an interesting and unusual way.
Plan of Work:
The first part of the project timetable will be research. I will be researching the different animation styles and how to produce them. The second part of the research will be about which piece I will either create or recreate. I plan on researching the animation for a few weeks but the animation styles will take longer. The animation process research will take a longer period of time because I will have to test how long it takes to recreate each process. After the researching I will begin to create a version of the animation using one of the animation processes. After the animation has been completed I will begin to recreate my animation using the different animation processes. By the end of term 1 I would hope to have some of the animations completed so I can begin to start looking at the code required to navigate through the different animations without upsetting the flow of the piece.
Output:
The final piece will be outputted as a flash animation that can be downloaded from my website or viewed online, depending on the size of the final piece. The project will be presented to the rest of the group at a designated time. The presentation and final piece will be accompanied with a workbook in the form of a blog that will be kept up to date during the whole of the production.
